About

Tukufu is dedicated to bringing a fresh view of culture and society. Born Antonio McDaniel to Willie and Annie McDaniel, and raised in the housing projects of Oakland, California in the 1970s, he embraced the name Tukufu Zuberi - Swahili for "beyond praise" and "strength." Tukufu Zuberi is popularly known as a host on the hit Public Broadcasting System (PBS) series The History Detectives, which regularly shows the way individual objects can serve as a lens into the past. He has appeared in several documentaries on Africa and African American issues, and on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX, WHYY, MSNBC. Dr. Zuberi's long history with PBS has led to the marriage of his scholarship and his on air media personality in his documentary filmmaking.
